Providing funding for creative, talented and enthusiastic young people from the North East, The Sammy Johnson Memorial fund gives opportunities to people from diverse backgrounds who share a passion for performing arts as Sammy did.
The Community Foundation administers the fund on behalf of the trustees and in addition to money raised from Sunday for Sammy ticket and DVD sales, the fund also accepts gift donations from individuals and companies in order to invest and provide grants to deserving candidates for years to come.
Applications for funding are welcome at any time of the year and are reviewed every six months following which auditions are held. Each application must be supported by a letter of recommendation, either by a course tutor or by way of a reference to the individual's ability. It is not essential that applicants are attending a performing arts related course - we look for enthusiasm, creative talent and determination.
